This week: Product whores rejoice: Mega beauty-product emporium opens at Bay Street today, First Fridays unveils new free shuttle service (perfect time to grab a funky vintage-style bathing suit from Afterglow), and we dream about effortless summer style. Plus, a shopping event for a worthy cause in SF and an East Bay sale at an amazing boutique. Jump right in!
Sephora Comes to Bay Street Does your bag weigh ten pounds 'cause you insist on having a full-on makeup kit at all times? Do you freak out if you've left the house without some shimmery bronze powder and three kinds of lip gloss? Do you have umpteen kinds of hair product (prepping spray, relaxing balm, sculpting cream, styling cream, texturizing goo, revitalizing mist, finishing spray, etc.) that you ABSOLUTELY CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT? Then head over to the grand opening of Sephora at Emeryville's Bay Street Mall. Sephora's opening definitely helps add to the draw of shopping at Bay Street, including the relatively new H&M. Just another reason for East Bay'ers to not have to travel to SF or Walnut Creek. Now, if only downtown Oakland could step it up... When: Today! Store Hours: Mon.-Sat. 10 a.m.-8 p.m., Sun. 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Where: Sephora, 5626 Bay St., Emeryville
Design for Change Fifty designers and artists are converging this weekend for Design for Change, an event featuring clothing, jewelry, art, accessories, home stuff, and gourmet treats to benefit the Not for Sale Campaign, which aims to end slavery. While shopping, enjoy live jazz, DJs, specialty cocktails, plus spa treatments, makeovers, manicures, hair styling, and goodie bags. When: Sat., July 7, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Where: Medjool, 2522 Mission St., SF How much it'll set you back: Suggested donation admission fee is $3 and $6 includes a gift.
First Fridays, Playful Swimsuits It's that time of month again for Oakland's Art Murmur. And starting today, the city of Oakland is offering free shuttle service between events so you can check out more art, music, and hipster debauchery. While you're at it, pick up a funky swimsuit by AC Clothing and Bags at Afterglow. Designer Amy Cools calls her new creations "soft, comfy, playful bathing suits." Best of all, they're "fully lined, don't bind, and easy to wear." Sounds good to us! When: Tonight! 7:30 p.m.-11 p.m. Where: Afterglow, 4233 Telegraph Ave., Oakland
Uber-Trendy Home Site We can't believe we only just discovered one of the coolest online shop for uber-trendy stuff for your home. Check out Design Public's Outlet to score an eclectic array of wall art, tables, bedding, accessories and more for 50 percent off. (The only catch is that you have to pick 'em up at the site's HQ in San Francisco, and because most are items that have been returned, don't expect snazzy packaging). We especially love this vibrant canvas tote bag and the Fatboy Doggy Boy Bed for $50, which your pooch (or our cats, we'd bet) will adore. For first dibs, sign up for their weekly newsletter chock full of new outlet items.
Summer Sale One of our favorite Oakland boutiques, Iniam, is having a summer clearance sale. Save 30-70 percent off all spring/summer clothing and selected denim and accessories. While you're visiting, take a peek at new pre-fall arrivals from 3.1 Philip Lim, James Perse, Cynthia Steffe, and Theory. What's best about this boutique? The totally helpful sales gals and lack of snootiness. When: Now! Store hours: Mon.-Fri. 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Sun. noon-5 p.m. Where: Iniam, 5902 College Ave., Oakland
