In an email to the Berkeley J-school community, Cal executive vice chancellor and provost George Breslauer announced yesterday that associate professor Neil Henry, an author and former Washington Post reporter, will be serving as the school's interim dean for six months starting in July. Henry had been a top contender for the permanent gig, which ultimately went to Dianne Lynch, the current dean of Ithaca College's school of communication. This is just another twist in a dean selection process that's already had quite a few, including Lynch's surprise announcement in March that she was withdrawing her candidacy, Breslauer's subsequent wooing that convinced her to throw her hat back in the ring, and mysterious out-of-state tips to this blog days before the formal announcement that Lynch was indeed the victor. Jeez, guys. This is like covering Florida elections, circa 2000.
