Sorry Oakland carnivores, but don't expect salumi anytime soon on International Boulevard. Readers of a December Chron report about future plans for the shuttered Moniz sausage factory may have gotten the impression that SF celeb chef Chris Cosentino would soon be twisting up high-end salumi in this neighborhood of taco trucks and Vietnamese pho, under the name Boccalone. "If all goes well," the Chron's "Inside Scoop" column reported on Dec. 20, "the first Boccalone meats will be on their way to salumi lovers by the second half of 2007." Make that the far end of the second half. A publicist for the Incanto chef said Cosentino won't be churning out porky stuff in Oakland until fall, at the earliest, and retail's been nixed -- at least for now. The chef's publicist said whenever Boccalone salumi starts cranking, it'll end up strictly with restaurant clients (including three unnamed places in Manhattan). Looks like Cosentino just loves us for the real estate.
