Safeway Decides to Pump Gas, Goes Green to Boot

We know Safeway's been more than a little worried about its bottom line, what with skyrocketing health care costs and Wal-Mart supercenters slapping it around and all. But soybeans? That's gonna bail you guys out? This week, the Pleasanton-based grocery firm opened its very first biodiesel gas station in Seattle, Washington. According to the Associated Press, the company is selling a new formula of 80 percent liquified dinosaur (you know - gas) and 20 percent soybean oil. Even mayor Greg Nickels is getting into the act, pumping five gallons into his Volkswagen Golf.
