Swedish Shocker! IKEA Ditches Proposed Dublin Digs



Two years after the city approved plans to bring $1 cones of frozen yogurt and face-sized cinnamon buns (6 for $4!) to its residents, along with some furniture and houseplants, the megachain has pulled the plug. Dublin Mayor Janet Lockhart received the unexpected news Thursday in a letter from the company's real-estate guru, who apparently figured out that people who live in Dublin spend an inordinate amount of time in their cars and don't mind making the 25-mile jaunt to Emeryville. As IKEA spokesman Joseph Roth told the CoCo Times, "The Emeryville location is fulfilling the needs of the East Bay." Dubliners' local Baskin Robbins and Cinnabon are no doubt celebrating as you read this.
