Staffers at the Alameda County Registrar of Voters will return Saturday to continue counting the 60,000 absentee ballots that arrived on Election Day, said spokesman Guy Ashley. The staffers will count all weekend, but there will be no updates posted on the registrar's website until at least Monday, he said. That means the outcome of close races will not be known until next week. The counters took Friday off for Veteran's Day - a state and national holiday for government employees. So far, the absentee count has progressed slowly. The registrar's office on Thursday tallied only about 1,000 of the 60,000 outstanding ballots before heading home for the holiday.
