When they're not representing Barry Bonds, the attorneys at Pleasant Hill's Rains, Lucia & Wilkinson have made a huge name for themselves as the go-to suits for cops and sheriff's deputies around California. From the Riders case to the scandal around gladiatorial games allegedly staged by state prison guards, if you've been caught slapping around a skel or pocketing drug money, Michael Rains and his team of legal eagles are the guys to call. Now, the firm has oh-so-gently put cities around the East Bay on notice that unless they pay cops for the time it takes to put on their uniforms, some lawsuits may be in the offing. According to the East Bay Business Times (subscription required), the new initiative began once the Supreme Court ruled that meatpackers must be compensated for the time it takes to put on their protective gear. If it's good enough for the pigbutchers of the world, it must be good enough for the ... okay, that's a cheap shot. So sue us. Wait - did we just say that to Mike Rains?
