.Cal Profs Sick of Playing to an Empty House

UC Berkeley profs met yesterday to bitch about students’ increasing propensity for blowing off their lectures, in some cases, because they’re watching webcasts of the classes online, which are supposed to be for review, not lecture replacements. Students, it seems, aren’t so concerned. “Just because students aren’t showing up to the class doesn’t mean they are learning less,” bio major Timothy Yu told theDaily Cal. Come again, Tim? We know all your fellow students aren’t being so industrious.

Case in point: this recent posting from the online message board everyone loves to love is the sort of thing profs are railing against. “I am looking for a student that is willing to do some ‘research’ work for me. I am a senior and working a full-time intern job so I cannot make it to some of my classes,” it begins. Poor thing! But hey, screw class-you’ve gotta have those impressive internships, right? The poster declined to respond to our email query requesting more information about the gig-and his or her questionable work ethic.
