Planet, Dammit: Blotter Is a Diamond in The Rough

A robbery by butter-knife bandits? A salsa attack at Via Taqueria? If you want to find something lively in The Berkeley Daily Planet -- subtitle: The Soporific Berkeley Twice-Weekly Planet -- which runs headlines filled with clunky acronyms, and boasts such riveting tales as "DAPAC, Design Review Meetings Focus on Housing, Projects," and "Richmond Soil Radiation Levels Debated at Advisory Meeting," turn to the Planet's oft-amusing police blotter. That's where the writer hidden inside overworked reporter Richard Brenneman is allowed to sally forth. Hidden, we say, because it's more often than not poor Richard who's stuck writing about all those exciting land-use issues.
