Despite our reputation as the "Gay Area," we've lost a lot of local LGBT businesses over the last decade. We’ve lost bookstores, restaurants, bars, and other community spaces that have been so integral to our communities. Most recently, The Lexington
, San Francisco’s last-standing lesbian bar, announced it would be shuttering due to high rent and low turnout.
Because of this, the folks at AfterEllen
(I write an advice column for AE) came up with an idea to support queer businesses this weekend with an event called LezBiBuy.
San Francisco's Only Lesbian Bar, The Lexington, to Close
A Sexy East Bay Holiday
takes place this Saturday, December 6, and is a day we are encouraging people go out and support their local LGBT establishments. Because queer ladies and beer are the two things most dear to my heart, I volunteered to host a meetup at the White Horse Bar (6551 N. Telegraph Ave.) in North Oakland at 8 p.m.
So come on out, enjoy a beverage, talk up some gaydies (and lesbros), and let's awkwardly high-five each other in support of these amazing queer businesses that we enjoy having around. Come say hi — I'll be the one in the neutral-toned hoodie with the asymmetrical haircut. Oh wait, that's all of us. Here's a picture to clarify.

(now in downtown Oakland), or by enjoying a delicious gluten-free treat
from The Grease Box
