Lil B's sartorial choices have raised more than a few eyebrows in the past, but none earned quite as much attention as the grandma earrings he rocked in the video for "Got the Mack Loaded," redubbed "Lil B Shows Off Grandma Earrings" on YouTube. Many critics, including this one, couldn't help but jeer at the rapper's sparkly costume jewelry, although most listeners agreed that, in every other sense, "Got the Mack" is a pretty gritty rap song.
Not so, said B's former collaborator A$AP Rocky, who famously dissed the earrings in an October interview with Complex magazine, during which he also disparaged B's album title, I'm Gay.
“Don’t get it twisted: I don’t fuck with Lil B or that ‘I’m Gay’ shit,” A$AP said. “He wears my grandmother’s earrings. [Laughs.] I’m just being serious. It’s not going down."
Yesterday, B delivered his riposte in an interview with another hip-hop magazine, XXL:“[Rocky] doesn’t realize I’m like the young Lil Wayne of the generation for us, minus the money,” B said, arguing that fame allows him unlimited creative license. Even to reapproriate the word "gay" or christen himself "the based god."
