It was too late to fit into the paper, but considering the lineup, we just couldn't resist telling you: This First Friday — the first First Friday of 2012 — is going to be an exciting one for music. Local lights and EBX-featured acts Safe, Uncle Ricky, and Friendzone will join forces with rappers Willie Maze and Chippy Nonstop for "Sick Sad World." The action-packed evening, which takes place after Art Murmur at Rec Center Studios, will also feature local DJs Bobby Peru, Neto187, and Spaceghost, all of whom will no doubt deliver killer sets.
All in all. we're pretty pumped to see such a full and diverse bill. Learn more about the event on Facebook.
To be fair, there are other equally cool events going down across the city the same evening. For instance, another First Friday concert series, partially organized by the folks from Mission Creek, will feature a widely eclectic lineup ranging from solo guitar, to vibraphone ensembles, to the sweet electro-pop of Oakland's James & Evander, all within the gothic splendor of The Sanctuary on Broadway. Unsurprisngly, the details live on Facebook. There'll also be lots of local love at The Uptown's free First Friday event, which includes Grass Widow and new Oakland band Churches, featured in tomorrow's paper. These are just a few of the music gigs going down on Friday, though — the best way to discover more is to head to the town and walk around.
