Two Gallants

When: Sat., Feb. 2, 9 p.m. 2013

Grungy Americana roots duo Two Gallants has been a staple of the San Francisco music scene since its members started busking at BART stations in 2002. Coming up around the same time as The Black Keys, Two Gallants quickly gained a following with its bluesy ballads, but the childhood friends burned out in 2008 and took a long break. They returned last year with The Bloom and the Blight, their most aggressive album since their debut, The Throes. The Bloom and the Blight still has plenty of downward-spiral, whiskey-soaked blues, but it’s more nuanced and balanced — taking a few years to evolve personally seems to have allowed its members to evolve musically. In one of its biggest hometown gigs to date, Two Gallants will headline The Fillmore (1805 Geary Blvd., San Francisco) on Saturday, Feb. 2. Openers Akron/Family and Future Twin reflect each side of Two Gallants’ sound: the former an experimental and improvisational folk band; the latter a local noise-rock outfit known for its volatile live shows. 9 p.m., $22.50.
