The College Avenue restaurant and wine bar, opened in 2011 by two local moms, serves meals made with local produce and sustainably farmed and caught fish and meats, and small plates for pairing with carefully selected, small-production wines. TOAST is also available for private events.

Restaurant Details

The wine bar as we knew it (big balloon glasses swirling inky Malbecs, walls painted burgundy red, goat cheese fondue) is essentially dead. And while College Avenue’s Toast doesn’t exactly push the envelope, it does manage to feel aligned with some new expression of the wine bar. It’s partly the space, with its Eames chairs and steely-blue walls, and partly the wine list peppered with some obscure varietals. Chef Rebecca Boice’s food, on the other hand, can feel like a throwback to classic Cal-Med of a decade ago, except when things are pared down, such as with the small plates. Order the simplest things on the menu and Toast becomes a place you can drink to.
