The Walkmen and Father John Misty

When: Thu., Jan. 24, 8 p.m. and Fri., Jan. 25, 9 p.m. 2013

Here's a no-brainer: The Walkmen and Father John Misty — bands that put out two of my favorite albums of 2012, playing together. The Walkmen has had some misses in its twelve-year career, but the New York/Philadelphia band seriously redeemed itself with last year's Heaven, an album packed with uplifting instant classics that are surprisingly danceable. Father John Misty, meanwhile, led by entrancing frontman J. Tillman (the former drummer of Fleet Foxes), serves up his own hits -- albeit with a folky, pop-psychedelic haze. Both bands are engaging performers and feature top-notch musicians — expect this show to be memorable. At The Fillmore (1805 Geary Blvd., San Francisco) on Thursday, Jan. 24. 8 p.m., sold out.
