Thai New Year celebrations are not as well-known as Chinese ones, but they look epic. In Thailand, when temples aren’t being visited or blessings made, city streets are blocked for water battles. A taste of the holiday will be offered at Montclair’s Daughter Thai, with live music, Thai classical dance, and a number of traditional activities to choose from inspired by the evening’s theme, “Thai Night Market.” There will be a Duck Fishing Game, soi dao (a wishing tree game), a gift for every table, and water splashing (Daughter Thai will have water guns outside the restaurants for feisty guests). The eats look sterling, too: tum tard (Red Temple Plat-ter) with spicy papaya salad, fried calamari and other fritters; and Southern Thai herb chicken with roti, turmeric rice, cucumber salad, and gravy.
