Oakland Ping Pong Party

When: Thu., Feb. 7, 7-11 p.m. 2013

Fans of Berlin-style ping pong no longer need trek across the bay for the famously boozy American Tripps pong nights: Oakland Ping Pong Party is back and here to stay. The Berlin-style take on the game -- also called Rundlauf, or "running around" -- can have up to thirty people playing simultaneously, cycling around both sides of the table in an attempt to stay in long enough to make it to the final two. It's a game that's at turns social, exhilarating, and frenetic -- overall, a great centerpiece for a party. On Thursday, Feb. 7, Oakland Ping Pong Party creator Noah Cates stages the second iteration of the pong-centric bash at Arbor Cafe. Rounding off the event are dim sum courtesy of Oaktown Apprentice, party tunes supplied by KALX DJ Marcos Juárez, and six beers on tap -- plus, of course, all the pong and sprinting you can handle. 7-10p.m.; free before 8 p.m., $3 after.21 and up. Cash only. Facebook.com/OaklandPingPongParty
