Neurosis

When: Sat., Nov. 17, 8 p.m. 2012

The name Neurosis is synonymous with a particularly bleak, ambient, doomy kind of post-metal that has influenced countless bands, many which have gone on to make their own names (and many that have released albums on the band's own Neurot Recordings label). Formed in Oakland in the mid-Eighties, Neurosis just released a new album, Honor Found in Decay, which the legendary band calls its "most dynamic" to date, juxtaposing crushingly heavy noise with quiet, sparse, atmospheric, and introspective moments. The band's lineup hasn't changed much in its near-thirty-year career, and while guitarists/vocalists Steve Von Till and Scott Kelly now live in remote locales in the Northwest, they've still clearly got close ties to the East Bay. The band has gathered a stellar lineup — metal legends Voivod and doom trio YOB — for its sole US appearance at The Fox Theater (1807 Telegraph Ave., Oakland) on Saturday, Nov. 17. Don't miss it. 8 p.m., $29.50. TheFoxOakland.com
