When did we all get so obsessed with jeans? The fanaticism reached new heights with the opening of Two Jacks Denim, which places a premium on handcrafted, American-made selvage denim. The new Uptown store, named after verified badasses Jack Kerouac and Jack London, sources its clothing from companies such as Bay Area-based Tellason and Taylor Stitch, and also carries Prison Blues jeans, made by inmates at the Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution in Pendleton. Owner Tommy Mierzwinski carefully selects made-in-the-US brands, scouring the country for the top raw, selvage, and artfully crafted jeans. He also stocks jewelry from Oakland's Kate Ellen Metals, handmade leather belts from Hellbrand Leatherworks, and a small selection of ladies' styles from Railcar Fine Goods. The store even partners with a local tailor to offer denim hemming and repair. Kerouac and London may have been able to get away with ratty jeans with a few holes, but you probably shouldn't.
