Dirty Ghosts

When: Fri., Nov. 30, 9:30 p.m. 2012

Dirty Ghosts is something of a rising star in the Bay Area music scene, uniting Eighties new wave and a little funk under a rock aesthetic. After playing this year's Noise Pop and Treasure Island Music Festival, Dirty Ghosts kicked off a U.S. tour at San Francisco's Brick and Mortar Music Hall. Now back home from the road, its members -- not quite ready to set their gear down -- are getting right back into the local gig routine, a mark of a band that thrives off exhaustion, as long as it's for the music. The project of frontwoman and guitarist Allyson Baker, she brings to Dirty Ghosts a voice reminiscent of Kim Gordon from Sonic Youth, but more pop-ready and less jaded-sounding. Baker is accompanied by the occasional handclap, swirling scratchy guitars, and catchy riffs. A certain infectiousness flows through the temples of every song -- an effect that's only magnified when the band plays live. Catch Dirty Ghosts with ZigZags and Glitz at Elbo Room (647 Valencia St., San Francisco) on Friday, Nov. 30. 9:30 p.m. $8.
