Cafe V (2056 San Pablo Ave.), a trendy Vietnamese fusion restaurant, opened last summer in a space across the street from Local 123, the popular West Berkeley coffee shop. Yesterday was the first time I noticed the place, and, as it turns out, V just re-opened last week with new management and a new head chef (Yvonne Thi) who used to run Vietnamese restaurants in Concord and Pleasanton.
The menu is heavy on fusiony items like jalapeño popper egg rolls and pork belly banh mi, but the restaurant has now started serving traditional pho (the classic Vietnamese noodle soup) as well — both beef and chicken versions. Owner Hamei Hamedi said next week he’ll be launching a “Pho Twenty” happy hour special: From 4:20 to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, a bowl of pho will only run you $4.20.
So there you go: One more indulgent activity you can partake in at 4:20.
