Meeting reskeds, checking Facebook to see who’s been owling over the weekend — a lot of laptop work gets done mornings at Pizzaiolo, during the informal coffee and pastry breakfast that started there in 2008. Last month saw the launch of Boot and Shoe Café (3308 Grand Ave.), the slightly better organized equivalent at Pizzaiolo’s spinoff in Grand Lake. The wall between Boot and Shoe Service and the former Café DiBartolo has been breached both front and back, in the brick-walled outer reaches of Boot and Shoe’s perennially jammed bar.
What the Fork stopped in last week for breakfast (it lasts till 2 p.m.) — a slice of frittata (potato, rapini, and Calabrian peppers) with an espresso (Owl’s Howl from Sightglass) wafting a delicious green perfume, sort of like tarragon. It’s a handsome space — partition wall above the barista station paneled with reclaimed wood, a rustic narrow counter the length of the long brick side wall, plus it’s nice to feel the two long, narrow storefronts connected. Plans reported elsewhere call for expanding the café’s food offerings this month: breads, a simple lunch, and evening snack foods like charcuterie plates to go with cocktails. Bring your laptop at your own peril.
