Burglary Victim Spots Stolen Goods on BART

Riding BART through the East Bay yesterday, a woman glanced around at her fellow passengers and noticed something that looked startlingly familiar.

A bulletin received today from the BART Police Department recounts the incident, which occurred just after 10 a.m. yesterday:

"A female patron aboard a train near North Berkeley station noticed a male with property that appeared to [have been] stolen from her home in an earlier burglary. The female called for officers who detained the suspect. The victim was able to identify the property as belonging to her husband. The suspect also had other property that appeared to be stolen. El Cerrito Police, who are investigating other burglaries in their city, responded and took custody of the suspect."

Talk about nerve! The thief was riding BART while wearing and/or using property that he had stolen from not just one victim but, police believe, other victims as well. Then again, what were the chances that he'd be sharing a BART car with one of his victims?

A few hours earlier at Dublin/Pleasanton station, a woman was walking across the parking structure when she was struck by a car. As if that wasn't bad enough, another car ran over the unfortunate pedestrian while she was lying on the pavement.

"The victim was transported to the hospital via ambulance to be treated for her non-life threatening injuries," reads the police report. "Both drivers are cooperating with the investigation."

At least it wasn't a hit-and-run.
