If you happened to pick up an East Bay Express over the weekend, you might have noticed a fat half-page ad for our upcoming FREE "Home Grown Author Night".

A what? A "Home Grown Author Night." See, Saturday, July 21, at 6 p.m. at Oaksterdam University in Oakland, we're hosting a panel of cannabis intellectuals for conversation, book sales and signings. It's the kind of high-caliber talk we've always wanted to go to. So we made it happen. And it's free to the general public.

We got:

University of Cincinnati Assistant History Professor Isaac Campos, author of 2012 book "Home Grown: Marijuana and the Origins of Mexico's War on Drugs"

In conversation with:

RAND's Co-Director of their Drug Policy Research Center, Beau Kilmer, author of 2012 book "Marijuana Legalization: What Everyone Needs to Know"

— Celebrity grower Ed Rosenthal, author of "Marijuana Grower's Handbook"

— and, late addition, best-selling author of "Flawless" and "Blood Diamonds", Greg Campbell, author of 2012 book "Pot, Inc."

Moderated by me, David Downs, your "Legalization Nation" columnist.

Explore the myths versus the facts in cannabis' past, present and future, with the best authors of 2012. Engage in a short, audience Q&A, and enjoy refreshments, book sales (bring cash!) and signings.

Sponsored in part by: East Bay Express, and hosted by Oaksterdam University, cannabis education pioneer. Donations are appreciated. This is a non-smoking event.

Follow the "Home Grown Author Night" web page RSS for event updates.

Or get updates by 'Liking' the Home Grown Author Night event on Facebook.

(And while you're shirking work, Facebook 'Like' "Legalization Nation", "East Bay Express", "Oaksterdam", and "David Downs" for updates as they come.)

And if you want to volunteer, or be a part of it in anyway — like, say you want to sponsor refreshments and snacks — you can contact us in the comments, through the paper, or any number of ways, really.

This is going to be a lot of fun, very informative, and we hope to see you there.
