Pitcher Tyson Ross, 22, who graduated from Oakland’s Bishop O’Dowd High School in 2005, made his major league debut for the Oakland Athletics last night. After going to Cal and spending a couple of years in the minor league system, Ross had his inevitable call-up to the show, much to the anticipation of Bay Area sports fans. Ross wasted no time showing why he is one of the A’s top prospects by pitching 2.1 innings, recording 2 strike outs, and not giving up a run, effectively shutting down a decent Seattle Mariners lineup. This helped keep Oakland in the game, leading to an eventual game-winning hit by catcher Kurt Suzuki. Hopefully this outing is a sign of things to come from the local. So far the A’s are 2-1 on the season. Only 159 games left.
