Not everyone, it seems, got the news that Oakland's libraries will be closed all week due to budget cuts. And the Chronicle's Carolyn Jones was on hand to watch as patrons arrived downtown, only to find the doors locked and a peremptory sign informing them of the situation. This, of course, is just more of the pain Oakland's been enduring since the recession got underway, and a certain city administrator didn't level with her bosses about the extent of the city's financial worries. Would-be patron Carter Lacey pretty much summed it up when he realized the library was down for the week. "Well, this kind of crumbles the deck," he said. Indeed.
