BoilerHouse Restaurant

We’ve seen restaurants in sidelined railway cars, restaurants in abandoned quarryworks, and restaurants in desanctified churches, but BoilerHouse is the only restaurant we know of that’s located in an old Ford assembly plant. And not just any Ford assembly plant, but the biggest on the Pacific Coast: 525,000 square feet of mass production along the shores of Richmond’s Inner Harbor. The restaurant is inside one wing of a huge pier-side hangar where boilers were housed and cranes lifted goods from ships into the factory. Today, this meticulously restored expanse of industrial deco is a dazzling place to enjoy breakfast, sliders, or well-crafted cocktails. Vintage factory sash windows and sawtooth skylights let in plenty of natural light. The open kitchen, dining room, and centrally located bar are accented with gears, pulleys, chains, and levers reminiscent of the venue’s glory days. And copacetic touches like Terrazzo tabletops and terra cotta flooring complement the prominently displayed old boilers, now painted a gleaming silver. After your meal don’t forget to stroll down to the wharf and take in the panorama of the bay, the islands, and the city in the distance.
