.Best Farmers’ Market

Jack London Square

Sure, Grand Lake’s got the high profile and the sea of vendors (and Berkeley’s got the possibility of a Michael Pollan sighting), but when it comes to farmers’ markets and everything else, it’s not the size that matters, it’s how you use it. And at Jack London, that means a wide but well-chosen selection of produce, egg, meat, flower, and hot-food vendors, stretched along the Jack London waterfront amid a remarkably well-behaved and mercifully reasonable-size crowd, all set against the backdrop of what’s by far the most stunning setting of any farmers’ market in the Bay Area, save for maybe the ferry building. If you’re smart, you’ll buy some goat-milk ice cream or some African food or some spring rolls from one of the stands, spread out on one of the sun-lit and grassy little knolls, and watch the boats come in and out of the marina. You’ll have no choice but to thank your good fortune.
