.Best (Board) Gaming Bar

The Albatross

Without a doubt, The Albatross is the best place for drunken board-gaming in the East Bay. Not only does it have the popular ones (Taboo, Apples to Apples, etc.), but it’s also stocked with a whole bunch of table-top pastimes that you probably haven’t seen since you were a kid. Connect Four is a sure crowd-pleaser for competitive gamers, but boozers can also bond over a round of pool. Cluttered with chairs, tables, and friendly faces, The Albatross is a jigsaw of jolliness, the kind of place where you’ll always meet a fun character or two. The bar usually has a good microbrew on tap, and its calendar is sprinkled with jazz and blues bands. And while technically not a board game, darts makes The Albatross stand out most from other bars: A handful of boards, each adorned with a chalkboard in its own cubicle, line the side wall of the bar’s larger back room. Like horseshoes or bocce ball, darts is a game that forces socialization, deepens conversation, and allows for competition and contemplation at the same time.
