.Best Authentic Pakistani Food

Kabana Restaurant

There are lots of options for Indian food in the East Bay, but when it comes to Pakistani restaurants, Kabana is one of the few — and definitely the best — in terms of spiciness and authenticity. If you order standard fare like chana masala or paneer tikka masala, you won’t be disappointed, but you will be missing out. Pakistani cuisine is famous for its meat dishes, and the restaurant’s karahi boneless lamb and chicken (karahi refers to a thick, deep-bottomed pan) are excellent, with perfectly seasoned and tender meat. Ultimately, what makes the restaurant stand out is the haleem, which isn’t listed on the menu, though is served as a daily special. The slow-cooked beef, lentil, and barley stew spiced with coriander, cumin, turmeric, chili powder, and fenugreek, is a staple of Pakistani cuisine, typically served during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. Kabana’s version always hits the spot.
