Marie Equi (1872 – 1952) was an out lesbian in San Francisco in the late 1800’s. She was a doctor and radical activist who fought for women’s right to vote, reproductive rights, affordable housing and an overhaul of the criminal justice system. She was a union organizer, and spent two years in San Quentin for speaking out against US involvement in WWI. Come out and learn more about Marie Equi’s life and hear author, historian and activist Michael Helquist talk about his process of researching and writing this incredible biography.
