Calling all artists and designers! The East Bay Express is holding a design contest for the cover of its Best of the East Bay 2012 issue. The winner will win $500 in cash, plus $500 in gift certificates to local businesses. Artwork must be the creator’s own, must not have been published elsewhere, and should relate to the issue’s theme, which is “Revolution.” The concept can be interpreted however you see fit — whether it’s defined as something new, ground¬breaking, game-changing, subversive, outspoken, politically active, unapologetic, provocative, or irreverent. Bonus points if the design incorporates elements of life in the East Bay.
Submissions are welcome from all ages and skill levels, from any geographic location, but must meet our requirements to be considered. The winning design, chosen by Express staff, will be featured on the cover of the Best of the East Bay 2012 issue, which comes out July 18, 2012.
Deadline for submissions is Saturday, June 30.
Dimensions: 10.125 w x 11 h
File size should not exceed 9MB
Acceptable file formats: psd, jpg, eps, pdf, tif
Your design should consider the position of the Express masthead and Revolution logo, which will both rest on top of your artwork. Use the template — available for download here — as a guide to where the masthead and logo will be positioned. These positions are fixed. The Express design department will handle the actual placement of the masthead and logo.
Email your submission to covercontest [at] eastbayexpress [dot] com.
Winner will be required to fill out a W9 for tax purposes and fill out a freelance artist agreement with the Express. We reserve the right to use non-winning submissions in the context of the contest (e.g., a Facebook post about which design should win, or a house ad in the paper thanking the submitters).
