A KMEL DJ recently suggested that if the Ying Yang Twins weren’t rappers, their groupie action would be nil, which sounds about right. These dudes aren’t the type you’d actually want to approach you in a club and whisper gross-out pickup lines in your ear, though that’s precisely what they do on “Wait,” the already infamous highlight of the aptly (if asininely) titled United States of Atlanta. Nor do you really want rappers D-Roc and Kaine serenading you with sweet, sappy R&B songs: On lesser tracks like “Long Time” (featuring Anthony Hamilton) and “My Brother’s Keeper,” the Twins confirm, certainly and emphatically, their inability to croon.

Otherwise, Atlanta shows that the Twins know who they are: producers of clever, gorgeously slinky strip-club beats, coupled with raps that sound Country rrr-rrrr-runtry. The pared-down-to-nothing “Wait” and its lurid remix are two of the hottest commercial radio hits of 2005, and they probably have the groupies to prove it.
