Where did punk rocker Jesse Luscious, real name Jesse Townley, shop to make himself look respectable when he ran for Berkeley City Council last year? Wisely, he went to Jeremys, the rich man’s Marshalls on the corner of College and Ashby avenues. Actually, this boutique isn’t just for the rich. It offers some of the best bargains around on fancy brand-name clothing, including plenty of stuff from J.Crew. Some of the clothes are salvage, while others have been discounted because of manufacturer overstock or because the item is from last season. Pant selection can be a little iffy, but the selection of jackets and the great prices never fail to amaze. A couple of months ago, for instance, Jeremys was selling handsome brown corduroy J.Crew sports coats with no discernible defects for $59 — a quarter of what an equivalent jacket would cost at a store like Macy’s. More recently, Jeremys was selling a brown suede jacket with no obvious blemishes for $39. One warning: Sale items like this are sold “as is” and can’t be returned. But at those prices, who’d want to do that?
