The Golden State Warriors have been looking for a few reality-TV fans who also love hoops. And now they’ve got them. As a publicity stunt, The Interns ranks just above topless underwater free-throw shooting, but when the Warriors’ promo staff first floated the idea of getting ten college students to compete in a reality-style “program” that “airs” at selected Wednesday-night games (like tonight’s 7:30 contest vs. the Chicago Bulls), it probably sounded like fun. The prize is a full-time job with the Warriors front office à la The Apprentice — and what student would turn that down, especially in this economy? Want to skip the Warriors-Bulls game (hey, why would anyone want to miss Andres Nocioni?) and still catch The Interns and their corny backbiting (“Zvee doesn’t have a clue”)? Go to Warriors.com and see each “episode” online for free. Pick your favorite and watch him or her drive the lane. Our money’s on Janelle. — Kelly Vance

Walk-Off
Ghost town or Mt. Tam?
Black Diamond Mines Regional Park outside Antioch is the home of a former coal mine, a couple of ghost towns, a neglected cemetery, and some magnificent views of the bay — the latter of which the Berkeley Hiking Club will take advantage of Sunday morning (8:30 a.m.) with a strenuous eight-to-nine-mile hike and climb. If it rains, the hike is canceled. Sunday’s other option is in Marin County — a four-and-a-half-mile walk around Bon Tempe Reservoir, on Sky Oaks Road off Bolinas Road on the northwest side of Mt. Tamalpais, with lunch at its Lagunitas picnic area. Leaving time for the Bon Tempe hike is 9 a.m. Both hikes depart from the usual BHC spot: the corner of Shattuck Avenue and Berkeley Way. Stick It to Washington
Since losing at both USC and UCLA, Cal’s volleyball team has dug in and scratched for every point in its search for respectability in the perennially tough Pac 10. Coach Rich Feller’s Golden Bears have quite a legacy to live up to: Olympic beach volleyball ace Holly McPeak played for Cal in the late ’80s. Standout players on the 2004 team include freshman outside hitter Angie Pressey, sophomore setter Samantha Carter, and team kills leader Gabrielle Abernathy. But now it’s time for Washington (who beat Cal 3-0 in Seattle in their last meeting) and Washington State (Cal won 3-0 in Pullman) to visit Haas Pavilion. The Washington game is Thursday evening, Wash St. on Friday, both at 7 p.m. — Kelly Vance
