Open on Sundays! Normally that would be enough to sell a library to someone with the highest standards. But the positive attributes of the Orinda library only start there. Orinda is what other libraries aspire to be. It will make visits to other branches feel like trips to depressed Third-World countries. The Orinda library, funded entirely by residents and relocated in October 2001, looks more like a study hall at one of the Bay Area’s top universities. The first level has a quiet coffee shop and a sparkling water fountain. Inside, visitors will find an art gallery, meeting rooms, 29 public computers, wireless access, oversized chairs, pillows and study nooks. There are plenty of large study tables with reading lamps, and a cozy magazine space complete with fireplace. Orinda has an overall collection of 70,000 titles including movies and music; 30,000 of the holdings are children’s. Visit Orinda and never go back.
