.Best Comedy: Slothful comedians with sinful habits

With the demise of Brent Weinbach and Moshe Kasher’s popular gagfests at the Stork Club (both seem to be embarking on loftier pursuits), the two top contenders for this year’s best comedy night are “Wild Wednesdays” at Temescal Cafe — hosted by the dangerously cute but not-all-that-funny local stooge Nelson Martini — and Concord’s “Comedy at Cue” (also on Wednesday nights) — hosted by the dangerously cute but not-all-that-funny Carolé Acuña. Those who prefer lust should hit up “Wild Wednesday,” which is rife with penis jokes, references to favorite rap lyrics, and the requisite comparisons between your cell-phone provider and Death Row Records. In contrast, the comics at Cue Productions are mostly inspired by sloth — a slightly safer vice, though it’s apparently ripe for comedy. “Comedy at Cue” wins this year for two reasons. The first is that the venue is known for playing the Pointer Sisters’ “Jump for My Love” between acts, which is just plain awesome. The second is comedian Tom Smith, who is hilarious. His best (appropriately slothful) joke is about dating on Match.com — which is targeted to all those people who’ve ever had the experience of sitting in front of a computer, masturbating, and wondering what’s missing from the experience. (“I know!” he says. “A monthly fee!”).Yuk, yuk, yuk.
