.7:00 a.m. Saturdays: Best Radio Talk-Show Host

Donald Lacy on KPOO, 89.5 FM

Ever since the death of his daughter LoEshe five years ago, Donald Lacy has become an outspoken advocate for nonviolence with his Love Life Foundation and radio show Wake Up Everybody. Lacy, a leading Bay Area comic and host of the Explosion of Comedy — an event showcasing up-and-coming comedians at San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Center — broadcasts his show live from Everett & Jones BBQ at Jack London Square. Every Saturday morning from 7 to 10 o’clock, he brings his humor and wit to hard-core issues such as Oakland’s homicide rate, education, and the involvement of blacks and minorities in the Iraq war. He also covers culture, talking about music, rap, spoken word, etc. Adding in interviews with city officials, celebrities, and down-home folk who show up to add their two cents to the discussion, Donald is on a mission that leaves you laughing and crying. And he’s chosen to broadcast his messages via small but mighty KPOO, the only black-owned community radio station in the Bay Area.
