.Raiders Anoint Hue Jackson as New Head Coach

Tomorrow, the Oakland Raiders will formally proclaim Hue Jackson their new head coach. That’s clearly the best bit of news that the team has to offer in a month that was otherwise dominated by bad news. Former head coach Tom Cable didn’t see his $5 million option picked up, even though he led the team to its best record since 2002. Equally mysterious was the ouster of Raiders’ defensive coordinator John Marshall, whose contract expired this year. Blogger Bret Armstrong alleged that the team’s owner Al Davis was irritated by Marshall’s tactics — namely, the blitz and five safety packages, which constitute a particularly aggressive style of defense. To top it all off, cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha will become a free agent after his contract voids this year, which could mean another huge loss for Oakland’s home team.
