Stories you shouldn’t miss:
1. Oakland A’s co-owner Lew Wolff has hired a well-known stadium architect to design a new ballpark for the team in San Jose, the Chron reports. The decision by Wolff to hire 360 Architecture of Kansas City even though the A’s have not received approval from Major League Baseball to move to the South Bay further shows his strong determination to leave Oakland. The architecture firm also will design a new San Jose stadium for the Earthquakes soccer team, also owned by Wolff. He previously hired the same firm to design an A’s ballpark in Fremont.
2. Major out-of-state polluters are continuing to pour lots of cash into the Proposition 23 campaign, which would roll-back California’s landmark climate-change law. California Watch reports that Koch Industries of Wichita, Kansas, a giant refining and chemical company with annual revenues of $40 billion, pumped $1 million into the Yes on 23 campaign last week. Texas-based Tesoro oil company also donated $1 million last week, raising its total contributions to $1.5 million.
