Ex-state Senator Don Perata has abandoned his pledge to not take donations above $100 for his 2010 mayoral campaign in the wake of the Oakland City Council’s decision to implement ranked choice voting this year, the Chron reports. Perata, who staunchly opposed the new voting format and may now be at a disadvantage because of it, will now begin accepting individual contributions of up to the city-limit of $600. Apparently, he believes that the extra money he will raise will outweigh any negatives associated with breaking a campaign promise.
