UC Berkeley’s football and basketball teams are extremely profitable, but they don’t make enough money to make up for all of the school’s lesser-known, money-losing sports programs, according to UC officials, including Athletic Director Sandy Barbour. The university officials made those comments on KNBR radio in response to a Chronicle article that some have interpreted as saying that Cal football was losing money and forcing the university to keep it afloat with subsidies.
