A new report from Cal State Fullerton claims that 20 million people in the Los Angeles and San Joaquin Valley areas lose billions in medical bills and lost work time due to the health consequences of breathing polluted air. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, study author Jane Hall estimates that health problems and diminished productively combine to cost California $28 billion a year. The two regions exceed federal ozone standards at a rate ten times that of the Bay Area.
