.Another Oakland Riders Case?

Grim news from the Oakland Police Department, as internal investigators have pulled twelve cops off the street and assigned them to desk duty, while they investigate whether the cops falsified evidence in order to obtain search warrants. According to the Oakland Tribune, the officers have been accused of writing “misstatements” while compiling affidavits for the warrants, claiming that the cops bought drugs during undercover buys, when in fact the crime lab had not confirmed the substances as narcotics. The investigators are examining search warrants going back for years, which means that if the supporting affidavits were tainted all this time, dozens or perhaps hundreds of drug convictions could be overturned. It’s the Oakland Riders all over again, but for the fact that the cops patrolled East Oakland.
