.Berkeley Prof and Father of the Wet Suit Dead

Windsurfers of San Francisco Bay, a moment of silence, please. Hugh Bradner, the UC Berkeley and Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory physics professor who invented the wet suit, died last week in San Diego. In between bouts of studying high-energy physics, Bradner invented the wet suit in 1952, in the basement of his Berkeley home. Oh, and he helped build the atomic bomb. Like most inventors, Bradner never made any money on his new gizmo, but was eventually recognized as the man who made surfing in Santa Cruz possible. He was 92 years old.
