Consciously Chic
We’ve blogged about Appel and Frank’s fabulous shopping events before. Now, check out their first ever Eco-Chic event featuring more than thirty “green” designers – among them, organic denim from Del Forte (pictured), clothes from Anna Cohen and Lovelina, jewelry from mollymdesigns and the Weekend Store, Philippines-made handbags from Bahay Bag, cards printed on recycled paper from BZBdesigns.com, organic handbags from Envirosax, enviro-friendly diapers from Gdiapers, baby clothes from Mama Cow, and sustainable dog apparel from Green Dog Designs. Top it off with organic spa treatments, “green” treats and cocktails, and an organic, fair-trade coffee lounge with furniture made from material from San Francisco’s dump (presumably not so smelly). The first 300 shoppers get an all-green goodie bag. Best of all, a portion of the proceeds from the event benefits Friends of the Urban Forest.
When: Thurs., Sept. 27, 5 p.m.-9:30 p.m.
Where: The Regency Center, 1270 Sutter St., San Francisco
How much it’ll cost ya: $10

Forbidden Sale
Alameda’s Forbidden Island may just be the coolest watering hole in the East Bay (voted best tiki bar in the EBX last year). Yes, it’s a tiki bar, but even if you’ve never understood that kitschy craze, you’ll find it hard to dislike anything about this place. From its island décor to its friendly staff to its fun bar menu, the Forbidden Island promises a good time all-around (not to mention a nasty hangover the next day). This weekend, the Island hosts its second annual parking lot sale, which claims to be “Northern California’s largest sale of collectible & vintage tiki, Hawaiian, rockabilly, and mid-century modern goods.” Pick up art, home décor, aloha shirts, furniture, and more. Plus, there’ll be a humongous tiki bar offering drink specials! (21 & over only, sorry youngsters.)
When: Sun., Sept. 23, 3 p.m.-7 p.m.
Where: 1304 Lincoln Ave., Alameda

Want to Help Change the Face of Beauty?
While scouring Craigslist the other day, we came across this post looking for women to have their photo taken for project on “different faces of beauty.” According to the post, the organizers are seeking women of “all different shapes, sizes, colors, and ages to participate in a photo project focusing on the many different faces and shapes of beauty.” The images will be used on a web site and possibly a book on the subject. The shoot takes place on Sat. & Sun., Oct. 6 & 7. Nudity isn’t required (they ask you to bring outfits you like).
