It’s hardly news that buying moldering mom ‘n’ pops in urban cores is one way for immigrant entrepreneurs to get set up. But we love the way the blog Dive is training its camera on the Asian families behind some of our fave diner relics. The project’s dubbed “American Legacy, Asian-American Experience,” and it mostly focuses on coffee shops in San Francisco. But the one East Bay place in the archive is totally sweet: Oakland’s well-loved (and well-worn) hipster grits parlor, the Koffee Pot, and its owner, Seung Soo Chung. Nice job, Dive. You’ve made us hungry for more.
