.Post-Election Poll Looks at Why Aimee Allison Lost, Kernighan Won

You’ve heard of the morning-after pill, but you may not have heard about the morning-after poll done last week. The phone survey was done by pollster David Binder. It’s unclear who paid for the post-election poll, but Binder conducted a poll during the campaign for an independent expenditure committee supporting Oakland City Council candidate Aimee Allison. Judging from the questions, insiders speculate that Allison may want to run for the at-large council seat in two years and change her party registration from Green to Democratic. Allison didn’t return a phone call, and neither did Steve Phillips, head of Oaklanders for New Leadership, the indie committee that backed Allison. After the jump, an email from a person polled listing the questions they say they were asked.

I was asked who I voted for for Governor.
    My political party.
Who I voted for for city council.
What influenced my choice for Pat Kernighan (my words).
When did I make my choice (day of election, week up to election, over a
    month ago)

Then there were a bunch of questions about what I knew from the campaigns
(answers measured by true/false, definitely false, probably false,
    definitely true, probably true).

    Is it true that:

    Pat got Trader Joes.
Chinatown lost a walking officer under Pat.
Pat supported Oak-to-Ninth, which will cause overdevelopment and loss of
    open space.
Crime is up 300% in Pat’s district.
    Aimee has experience teaching.
Aimee is backed by nurses, Sierra Club, Greens.
Pat is supported by Barbara Boxer and the Democratic Party.
Aimee is a hypocrite for being a green and driving an SUV.
Aimee has no government experience and no experience in district 2.
Pat supports Ignacio, who is being investigated by the FBI.
Did I perceive an equal amount of mailers from each candidate?
Did I receive calls from volunteers from both campaigns?
Did I perceive Pat’s literature as positive, and Amy’s as negative?
Aimee Alison supports Ron Dellums and can work with him.
Aimee Alison is for change in Oakland.
Did the publicity just prior to the election about Aimee’s use of a photo with
her and Ron Dellums influence my vote?
Did the political party of each candidate affect my vote?
Did Amy being Green affect my vote?
    Did newspapers, editorials, have influence

Then, how much did the same statements above influence my vote? (very
influential, somewhat influential, slightly, no effect)
