There's new local music to suit any post-Valentine's Day mood.
Antwon — In Dark Denim
San Jose rapper Antwon dropped his new mixtape In Dark Denim yesterday, with the message: "HEY HERES MY ALBUM TO SEX TO HAPPY VDAY." Twon keeps it mostly light and upbeat, drawing inspiration from Nineties hip-hop.
TUnEyArDs as YOKO — "We're All Water"
Oakland's tUnE-yArDs just released a rollicking, tripped out cover of Yoko Ono's "We're All Water," a limited edition ten inch that benefits Hurricane Sandy relief. TUnE-yArDs' bassist Nate Brenner told me at Swarm Gallery's Sound Salon, where he performed as part of his other band, Beep, that it's worth grabbing the record for the B-side, tUnE-yArDs' remix of Ono's "Warrior Woman."
And in case you missed it, watch tUnE-yArDs perform on Austin City Limits (if you want to skip Edward Sharpe & Magnetic Zeros' set, tUnE-yArDs starts at the 27 minute mark).
Painted Palms — "Click"
San Francisco synth-pop band Painted Palms give us the perfect make-out song, complete with breathy vocal harmonies, hand-clapping, and a swirling Sixties melody. "Click" is the B-side off its Carousel seven inch record, out March 5.
