If the success of the Beatles Rock Band video game is any indication, there are ample gamers out there who can be entertained by playing the songs of just one band (of course the band matters; I don’t think many people would want to play Nickelback’s entire catalog). With its very large youth fan base, Green Day should have no problem selling its new Green Day: Rock Band for Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 (trailer here), which is slated to be released June 8.
Local folks might be interested to see what kinds of local tidbits will show up in the game. (Count on Gilman making a cameo.) According to the press release, the game will allow players to “progress through the story and history of Green Day, gaining access into the band’s media vault, where they can unlock more than 100 collectible images, and more than 40 minutes of rare and unreleased video from interviews, outtakes and performances.” Players will also be able to do three-part vocal harmonies and play 47 of the band’s songs. The game will cost $59.99.
